ALBA AND PLATEA ORGANIZE AN EVENT DEDICATED TO STEEL CHARACTERIZATION USING DISRUPTIVE TECHNOLOGIES

More than 40 persons belonging to leading companies from the steel and automotive sectors attended last Wednesday 27th of September the event promoted by ALBA and PLATEA, the Spanish technology platform for steel.

Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona), 5th October 2022. "Disruptive technologies and its application to the steel sector" was the name of the event organized by ALBA and PLATEA, where more than 40 persons belonging to leading companies from the steel and automotive sectors such as ArcelorMittal, Acerinox, CELSA or SEAT attended. The event also counted with the participation of research centers such as Eurecat, Tecnalia and CNIM-CSIC, and funding agents such as the Agencia Estatal de Investigación and CDTI.

The event started with the welcoming words of Caterina Biscari, the ALBA Synchrotron director, and Susana Peregrina, the General coordinator of PLATEA platform, and after that, a series of talks were given including one from Klaus Attenkofer, Scientific director of ALBA, dedicated to Green Steel and circular economy and another one from Núria Cuadrado (Eurecat) that showed some of the results obtained at MSPD beamline on their study of the resistance of steels, and the characterization of the cracks generated when the steels are under stress.

The event atmosphere was very lively and the talks raise the interest of many participants who addressed several questions to the speakers and attendees and ignited an interesting debate on the characterization and improvement of additive manufacturing of steel. After the talks, a lively networking cocktail took place followed by a guided visit to ALBA's facilities and selected beamlines. The attendees highlighted the interest of knowing in-depth ALBA's opportunities for their sector, paving the way to ALBA to participate in fruitful collaborations with the steel industry.
