The Radiation Protection group is responsible of the radiation hazard safety at the Synchrotron ALBA. Its main mission is detailed in the following diagram:

  • Developing a policy and working procedures to prevent any radiological risk.
  • Communicating with the Spanish Nuclear Council (CSN) and applying the current safety regulations.
  • Defining and managing the access to Radiological Zones. Check Access rules information
  • Design of the radiation shielding elements and leading radiation shielding studies.
  • Collaborating in the improvement of the Personal Safety System and managing its functioning.
  • Training ALBA staff and external contractors about radioprotection issues.
  • Managing personal and area dosimetry

Since ALBA accelerators started to work in 2009, the radiation levels measured outside the bunkers have never surpassed the public zone classification.
