JEMCA (Joint Electron Microscopy Center at ALBA)

Located at the ALBA Synchrotron, JEMCA is the result of collaborative funding to create a unique microscopy platform in Catalonia.

It already hosts two Transmission Electron Microscopes and a third Microscope will be arriving in the near future.

At present JEMCA is equipped with:

  • A 200 kV TEM, Glacios from ThermoFisher Scientific, for research in the field of Life Sciences
  • A 300 kV (S)TEM, Spectra 300 from ThermoFisher Scientific, for research in the field of Materials Science (e.g.: 2D materials, nanomaterials,...)

These two microscopes have been funded through ERDF funds "A way of making Europe", are owned by several scientific institutions (check partner institutions in the description of each microscope), and have been installed in an extension of the ALBA experimental hall.

A third microscope, dedicated to correlative studies, and that will be purchased thanks to Next Generation funds (Programa Planes Complementarios en Materiales Avanzados), will be also installed in the same Center.
