From November 13th to 14th, the second edition of the workshop entitled: "ALBA Synchrotron, new instrumentation for Materials Characterization" took place in ALBA. This workshop started last year and is an ALBA initiative co-funded by ALBA and the "Grupo Especializado en Nanociencia y Materiales Moleculares" (NANOMATMOL) from the "Real Sociedad Española de Química (RSEQ) y de Física (RSEF)". The main objective is to provide basic insights about the synchrotron light and its potential applications among those researchers unfamiliar with its analytical possibilities.

This activity lasted two days. During the first one, scientists from all ALBA beamlines gave a short explanation of the techniques currently available at the synchrotron and the projects that are being considered for future ALBA beamlines. On the second day, the attendants visited the Experimental Hall and ALBA scientists from all the different beamlines explained them the available scientific tools they can potentially use. After the visit, workshop's participants showed a summary of their research topics during a poster session organized at the Experimental Hall. This poster session enabled a fruitful discussion with ALBA staff about the more suitable synchrotron techniques that could be applied in the different research topics of attendants' projects.

This workshop was limited to 50 people and had no registration fees to encourage people attendance. Like in the first edition, last year, the number of participants was fulfilled and ALBA staff received a very positive feedback. This kind of activities promotes the interaction among scientists from different research institutes and fields and increases the number of potential users that can come to ALBA to boost their research with the tools we currently offer.
